WANT  YOU  TO  JOIN  US  FOR

The 2016 Yale Day of Service on Saturday, May 7, 2016

The Yale Day of Service is a chance for participants around the world to come together on one day each year to celebrate and demonstrate—individually and collectively—the Yale tradition of Service.

It’s easy to get involved and your time will be well-spent.  All you need to do is:

1–Choose how you want to participate. See below for info about two outdoor events and one donation opportunity. We’re covering both sides of the Delaware River this year!

2–Sign up at the Yale Day of Service website – http://yaledayofservice.org/ – or via DIRECT LINKS below.

OUTDOOR EVENT INFO and PREP – Wear work clothes. Bring gloves, kneepads/kneeling pillows. Tools will be available. The day will begin with coffee and orientation. Alumni, their partners, families and friends are welcome.

Join us for a morning of work at Bartram’s Garden, a 45-acre National Historic Landmark that is almost 300 years old. The J. Bartram Association and Philadelphia Parks and Recreation operate Bartram’s Garden as an outdoor classroom and living laboratory destination; it will soon link to the Schuylkill River Trail. For questions, contact Lisa Slade Martin YC83 at drslademartin@aol.com. Also see https://bartramsgarden.org/.

Join us at the gardens of CFET, a non-profit located in Camden’s Waterfront South neighborhood that inspires people to practice a more environmentally responsible way of living on the planet. We will work on tending CEFT’s garden beds and cultivating its spring plantings. At morning’s end, you will have an opportunity to reflect on the realities of environmental injustice in South Jersey and our role in advocating for sustainable environmental practices. For questions, contact Howard Gillette YC64, PHD70 and author of the prizewinning book, Camden After the Fall, at hfg@camden.rutgers.edu. Also see http://www.cfet.org/. To sign up for the 2016 Yale Day of Service at Center for Environmental Transformation, click HERE.

2016 YDOS DONATIONSIf you are unable to work on-site on May 7th or want to contribute labor and dollars, please donate to the Yale Alumni Community Service Fellowship.

  • Through the YACSF program, The Yale Club of Philadelphia sponsors one Yale undergraduate in an eight-week, paid summer internship at a local non-profit. Our 2016 YACSF program mirrors the 2016 YDOS focus on Philadelphia and Camden. Under current plans, our 2016 YACSF intern will live with a Philadelphia alum’s family and work for Cooper’s Ferry Partnership, an organization devoted to Camden’s economic development and general revival.
